In this blog post i will cover how to configure a Server Core installation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

First thing you will want to do when you log into your server core instance is type the following into the cmd session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

sconfig<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
From here you can configure your server core instance. A few command tasks which i’ll cover in this post will be adding a server to the domain, enabling remote desktop and configuring a static IP address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joining an Active Directory Domain <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
To Join an existing domain from the server configuration menu you want to press Option 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

then select D<\/strong> and then enter the domain FQDN and domain administration credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Before the domain join process is completed you will be prompted to rename the server instance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
finally a reboot prompt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
your server core instance will now reboot and be joined to the domain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
As you can see from the graphic below this server is now joined to the ad.micorsoftlabs.local active directory domain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Configure a Static IP Address<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
To configure a static IP address from the server configuration menu you want to select Option 8<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next you will need to select the network adapter interface 10<\/strong>.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Next you will want to select Option 1 Set Network Adapter Address’.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Select Static ‘S<\/strong>‘ and now configure your IP address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
There you have, a Static IP Address configured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Configuring Remote Desktop Access<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
To Enable Remote Desktop, you want to select Option 7<\/strong> from the Server Configuration menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Press ‘E<\/strong>‘<\/em> to enable Remote Desktop, you will then be prompted for what level of security do you want enabled: NLA<\/em> or No NLA<\/em>.
NOTE: I would recommend using NLA Security.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
